A Christmas Chaos
Prepare for hilarity as Ferry Tales Youth Theater presents A Christmas Chaos! When the professional cast of A Christmas Carol is stranded, a local theater group must pull together their own version at the last minute. With only one day to prepare, everything that can go wrong does—from miscast actors and backstage squabbles to missed cues and collapsing props. Full of comedic mishaps, this behind-the-scenes spoof on Dickens’ classic tale will have audiences laughing from start to finish. Join us for a festive farce where the show must go on—no matter the chaos!

No sign up for auditions but please come prepared with at least 30 seconds of memorized comedic or dramatic monologue from a script or play that is age appropriate. Here are some examples you can choose from or bring one of your own as long as it meets the above parameters.

“Matilda” by Roald Dahl (Matilda)
“Books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad, hunted tigers in India with Rudyard Kipling, and went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village. And the best part? She never got lost! The only passport she needed was her library card. Who needs a plane ticket when you’ve got an imagination?”

“Aladdin” (Genie)
“Ten thousand years can give you such a crick in the neck! And let me tell you, being in a lamp? Not as cozy as it sounds. So, what’s it gonna be, master? You wish for me to make you a prince? Just say the magic words, rub the lamp, and—POOF!—you got it! And hey, no refunds, okay? I can give you fame, riches, a palace… but good hair? That’s extra!”

“Frozen” (Olaf)
“Hi, I’m Olaf, and I like warm hugs! Have you ever hugged someone so warm, you thought you’d melt? Oh wait, that’s just me! You see, some people are worth melting for. But, uh, maybe not right this second. Did you know I once got my nose bitten off by a reindeer? It’s true! But he gave it back! Life is just full of warm, squishy surprises.”

“Finding Nemo” (Dory)
“Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming! What do we do? We swim! Even when things look dark and scary, you just keep swimming! I mean, sure, I forget things… a lot of things. But I never forget how to swim! Or… maybe I do? No, wait, I remember again!”

“Elf” (Buddy the Elf)
“I just like to smile. Smiling’s my favorite! I mean, who doesn’t like smiling? Grumpy people, I guess. But not me! And you know what else I like? Candy canes, snow, cookies, reindeer, the North Pole, sugar, syrup… oh, and did I mention smiling? Smiling’s the best!”

“The Lion King” (Timon)
“Hakuna Matata! It means no worries, for the rest of your days! Can you imagine a life with no worries? Just sunshine, bugs to snack on, and hanging out with your best pal! I mean, sure, we’re in a jungle and there are lions and scary stuff… but no worries! Right, Pumbaa? Right!”

“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (Charlie)
“Chocolate rivers, candy trees, marshmallow flowers… all you can eat! A whole world made of candy! I still can’t believe it’s real. Or I’m just really, really lucky. But I don’t want to be greedy. I’ll only take what I need… maybe a little more than I need… but not too much. Just… one more chocolate river sip!”

“Moana” (Maui)
“You’re welcome! No need to thank me, little one. You wanted the sun, the moon, the sea? Who brought you that? This guy! Maui, shapeshifter, demigod of the wind and sea, hero to all! Except, apparently, chickens. Hey, nobody’s perfect!”

“The Muppet Movie” (Kermit the Frog)
“It’s not easy being green. But then again, if I wasn’t green, I wouldn’t be me. And who else would be, you know, me? It’s okay to be a little different. After all, the world has plenty of regular folks. But there’s only one Kermit. And that’s more than enough!”

“Alice in Wonderland” (Mad Hatter)
“Would you like a cup of tea? It’s always tea time here! You’re entirely bonkers, but I’ll tell you a secret – all the best people are! I mean, who wouldn’t want to live in a world where you can be as crazy as you want? Bonkers is the new normal!”

Original
“I used to think grown-ups had all the answers. So one day I asked my dad why the sky was blue. He just stared at me, scratching his head, and said, ‘Uh… magic?’ Really? MAGIC? Next thing you know, he’s telling me gravity’s just the earth giving us a hug!”

Original
“Sometimes, I think my dog understands me better than anyone else. I tell him all my secrets, and he never judges me. He just sits there with those big, puppy eyes. And if I tell him something really embarrassing, he’ll even look away! Now that’s loyalty.”

“The Wizard of Oz” (Scarecrow)
“I could while away the hours, conferrin’ with the flowers, if I only had a brain. But, hey, wait a minute. If I didn’t have a brain, how could I say that? Does that mean I do have a brain? Or am I just smart enough to know I’m not smart? This is confusing!”

“Beauty and the Beast” (Cogsworth)
“If it’s not Baroque, don’t fix it! Living in a castle? It’s glamorous… until you remember dusting all those shelves. And trust me, they’re EVERYWHERE. That’s it, I’m taking a vacation next spring!”

“Despicable Me” (Minion)
“Banana! Bananananana! (giggles) Life’s too short to be serious all the time. Let’s have fun! I’ll be over here with my bananas… until they’re gone. Which might be soon.”

Original
“I had the best idea ever: I’d eat all the cookies and tell my mom I saved her from all those calories. I thought she’d say, ‘Thank you!’ But nooo, she was mad! I thought heroes got rewarded! Next time, I’ll leave one cookie… maybe.”
